It is the largest island of a small, circular Archipelago, which bears the same name and is the remnant of volcanic caldera. It forms the southernmost member of the Cyclades group of islands, with an area of approximately 73 km² (28 sq mi).
A World-Famous Destination
Thera, Therassia, Aspronisi and the volcanoes Palea Kameni and Nea Kameni form the cluster of islands which is called Santorini. Today, Santorini is the only inhabited Caldera (volcano cauldron) in the world. Santorini is one of the most popular island in Greece or even one the world’s most famous island. There are few travel destinations that combine unique Caldera towering cliffs above the sea, spectacular scenery, ancient and pre historic cities, some of the world’s best wine, and an active volcanoes.

Santorini has to offer such a variety of flavors and aromas.

Due to the volcanic ground in Santorini one could find one of the most interesting types of cherry-tomatoes, white aubergines, yellow split peas -Lathyrus clymenum- which gives us the famous dish called “fava” which has nothing to do with fava beans (Broad beans), katsounia (a local type of cucumbers), capers and of course the grapes which are producing the famous Santorini wines.

Kamari

Kamari is a seaside village on the southeast side of the island of Santorini, at the north foot of Mesa Vouno mountain and only 3 klm away from Santorini Airport.
Its name comes from an arch (Kamara) which was part of an ancient sanctuary dedicated to Poseidon, standing on the south end of the beach.
On the top of Mesa Vouno lies an important part of the history.
The archaeological site of Ancient Thera is a momentous landmark of Santorini where the temples, ancient cemeteries, buildings and a theater, offer you a spectacular feeling along with a fascinating view. Ancient Thera is an antique city on a ridge of the steep, 360 m high and was named after the mythical ruler of the island, Theras, and was inhabited from the 9th century BC until 726 AD.
Apart from its historic importance, Kamari has a long beach covered with black pebbles.
The beach extends in a northeast to southwest direction from Monolithos to the feet of the Mesa Vouno mountain that rises up to a height of approx. 400m.
Once an agricultural and fishing village, modern Kamari boasts a thriving tourist industry, offering a wide choice of restaurants, cafes, and bars, plus several water sport activities.
